Magazine Draft #2
Draft:
Today there are millions of athletes around the world. You
can easily condense this number by taking a smaller sample area, such as a city
or even a singular sport; but this still can add up to thousands of athletes
that all compete to be the best. The best way to stand out and be at the top is
practice. Lots of young, teenage basketball players say they want to be the
best and that they will do whatever they can to be number one, but they don’t
work like it. To truly be the best, you need to be putting in the extra time on
and off the court. A local basketball coach from Sickles High School says,
“wanting to be the best and trying in practice alone isn’t enough. The thing
that most people are lacking is their outside of school practice. To be where
you want to be, you have to be constantly working on the basics and even
engraving plays into your head on your own time.” Coach said that this is the
best explanation for why the best becomes the best. Eli Ventura a point
guard/shooting guard at Sickles High School says, “to be the best version of
myself, I put in the hours almost every day. Whether it’s working out, getting
shots up, or memorizing plays while I rehab my body, I’m working on my game.”.
The best thing to work on is consistency and putting in the extra hours that
help you to surpass the other athletes. Research done by thousands of
reporters, analysts, and others shows that just by getting an extra 300 shots
up a day, can improve your field goal percentage by 10-15%. This is only taking
in the shot effect. You can also work on things like plyometrics, and
conditioning to increase athleticism, enhancing overall performance. Michael
Evans a shooting guard/forward says that, “Once I started to work on things
like plyos and things to make me more athletic, I started to see a result in
every aspect of my game.”. Michael explains how important the conditioning
aspect of basketball is and how that with that extra effort, you can stand out
and show your dominance as one of the best players.
