Lighting Plan

Image
This is a sketch of my lighting plan for my cover photo. It will be a shot of a basketball hoop. As you can see there aren't a lot of lighting elements needed, so all I planned for was the natural light from outside windows, the lighting from the indoor lights, and maybe some extra light just for a little bit of filling or shadow control.

Magazine Draft #2

Draft: Today there are millions of athletes around the world. You can easily condense this number by taking a smaller sample area, such as a city or even a singular sport; but this still can add up to thousands of athletes that all compete to be the best. The best way to stand out and be at the top is practice. Lots of young, teenage basketball players say they want to be the best and that they will do whatever they can to be number one, but they don’t work like it. To truly be the best, you need to be putting in the extra time on and off the court. A local basketball coach from Sickles High School says, “wanting to be the best and trying in practice alone isn’t enough. The thing that most people are lacking is their outside of school practice. To be where you want to be, you have to be constantly working on the basics and even engraving plays into your head on your own time.” Coach said that this is the best explanation for why the best becomes the best. Top 5 Camera Tips

Image
Learning and goin through the process of camera work has been really helpful in my own understanding. This will come forward as well thought out pictures that I can use in my final magazine.

Reflection on Pre-Production

Concerns and challenges:   My concerns and challenges are that I don't know if I will be able to take the pictures within my time frame and I'm hoping that I get enough photos for the final magazine. I may not be able to take these pictures without a lot of time to plan. I hope to overcome these concerns by completing these photoshoots as soon as possible to give some cushion time to figure out if I need any extra photos.

Magazine-Layout Mock-ups

Image
This is my cover mock-up. I chose a very simple design withe the dominant image covering most of the page and a few small things teasing the text in the magazine. This is my spread mock-up. I chose a similar design to the magazines that I studied. I used a main image with it's main body under it about my feature article. The page next to it is the secondary article under the same topic as the main body. My table of contents mock-up is a similar design to my spread and cover pages. The only difference is that there are multiple images demonstrating the different articles that could be featured. Overall, these simple designs are going to be easy to read so that I can remain engagement with my readers throughout the magazine cover, spread, and table of contents. It is also simple because each page is picture with text over all pages.

Production Schedule

The times and dates will be dependent in which basketball games that I go to. These will be photoshoots and pictures of individual players as well as of the whole team. The location will be on a basketball court in a school's gym. The items needed for this are a camera of some sort, (my phone), people to take photos of, and a basketball to show that they are a basketball player or that they are playing basketball.

The Anatomy of a Magazine

Given the video Anatomy of a Magazine Layout Part 1 - 15 Terms and Definitions, the terms and elements I think are the most important are the headline, kicker, main body, and dominant image. These are very important in a spread because they are what the reader sees and engages on. The headline and kicker attract the reader and hook them. While the image and main body are what the reader analyzes and is entertained by. I can prioritize these elements in my own magazine by making creative headlines and kicker that help start off my article in my spread.
